From LEGO builds to full-size competition robots, students grow through hands-on STEM experiences across Colorado
Colorado FIRST was founded in 2001 to represent and achieve the mission of FIRST® (www.firstinspires.org). FIRST was founded in 1989 to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative robotics programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.
The mission of Colorado FIRST is to deliver high quality FIRST robotics programs to students in Colorado including managing tournaments, supporting teams, and working with our program mentors. Our long term goal is to develop the business and technology leaders of tomorrow.
AGES 6-10 · GRADES K-3
Students explore real-world themes through playful, hands-on STEM activities using LEGO elements.
AGES 9-14 · GRADES 4-8
Students research a real-world problem, develop an innovative solution, and design, build, and program a LEGO® robot to complete missions on a competition field.
GRADES 7-12
Teams of up to 15 students work with adult mentors to design, build, program, and test a robot for a new game each season. Robots are built using an industrial-style platform and must fit within an 18″ × 18″ × 18″ size limit.
GRADES 9-12
Students work together through the complete engineering process to build ~100lb robots while also developing skills in strategy, project management, fundraising, communications, outreach, and leadership.
